Hi, I am totally new to this whole paranormal topic and forums as well. Please excuse me if I am not doing this correctly or making any sense. I have always been "drawn" to spooky looking houses since I was a child and am now getting into photography of old spooky looking houses. I live in the Mountain Home, AR area and was wondering if anyone knew of any old abandoned houses nearby that I would be able to take photos of. I also need help in knowing what is acceptable or "legal" as far as taking these photos, if I am on the right of way,is that tresspassing? I would never go inside a house without permission but was wondering how close to the house you could get without being out of bounds. I need all the tips I can get. This site is so cool. I am mesmerized! THANKS!!!

I will contact a friend with the Sheriff's Office and double check also have one that is an attorney.
My understanding is if you are on PUBLIC property there are no issues. If private property BUT on the right of way (thats still Public) and accessible.
If you notice modern structures near these homes you can stop there and ASK if they know who owns it. Most times it is on thier property and you can gain access to the outside from them.
Another thing is if it is NOT Posted, but yet Empty its quite legal to walk the perimeter.....the neighbors might say something but if not posted there are no legalities.
Thats my understanding and I will re-verify that.
Looking for some old ones close to you, Buford Road about 4-5 miles in the SECOND Sharp Curvre that goes to the Right THAT House right in the Turn is Perfect for taking Pictures.
I see so many, I don't normally take notice as to thier locations when I am traveling around Baxter and Marion Counties during the work week.
If I can think of anymore CLOSE to the Road I'll pass that on to you. Would love to see some of your pics too.

Hey thanks so much for the tips. It's funny that you mentioned Buford Road. A couple of years ago I took several pics of the 2 story house in the curve, some called it the Lance House. Actually it is what got me so interested. I took a whole roll of black and white photos, and was going to go out the next evening to take a roll of colored photos...to my suprise, when I came around the curve ...the house had been bull dozed down!!!! I could not believe it. It was so "weird". This may not be the house you are talking about. I was so "drawn" to the house, it felt so welcoming and happy, which really suprised me when it was there one day and gone the next...literally! If I can figure out how to scan photos I will send what I took. Again I really appreciate the info you gave me.

spooky
there is an OLD Log Cabin in Baxter County I have been meaning myself to take some pictures of.
I have an thing for architecture (I'm a draftsman) plus a thing for history.
Off of WEST road aka 178 from the high school, head west to ALMOST Hwy 126 which (if you go left you hit Gassville, or right you hit Midway)....you don't want to make it to 126 just before you get there you'll see the turn off for the Tucker Memorial Cemetary on the left, 100 yards past that on the RIGHT is I believe CR 11. Less than a mile in on the right (real sharp curve) you'll see it very small original Cabin.
I have driven past this house for the last 14 yrs going to work. I just get a feeling " I NEED TO STOP AND BE THERE "
and there is one also ON 126 between West Rd. and Gassville on your right (if coming from West Rd.) its a little house not much detail to it.
Oh and one near Guy Kings on Hwy 5 its a 2 story little more detail to it.
And I have a friend that works at the school that travels the state doing old barns, houses, and business' I'll ask him for some more locations.

Thanks Jay! I went Saturday morning to all these locations and had a blast taking the photos. I need to go back and take another roll. I need to change my aperture next time. I also found 2 abandoned/empty houses right off the road on Highway 5 N, next to one another on the right hand side that I never knew existed. They look awesome, grown up all around them and the structure of the one house is unique, but of course they are posted as private property so I couldn't get a shot. They are right off the highway so I couldn't get a good angle from across the highway for the bushes etc. I also visited one of the cemeteries and took some really good shots. Thanks for your help. I love your site. Have a spooky day!

Glad you had a blast with those locations
I would LOVE to see the photos, if you had Walmart put on a CD i'd like to see them. Might even be able to use some on the site or some spooky looking photos for one of our documentaries.
If you like old cemetaries down Cannie Baker Road aka Walker Rd just down from J&L headed to Myers Roofing look on your right back in the trees NEXT to a house is a grouping of Headstones, maybe 10 or so.
Also down in Buford going to the River (take the right at 4 corners) down about half way on your left is an OLD cememtary right on the road.
Here in Yellville is the Old Red Raven Inn an old B&B. The owner recently passed on, and I do not know what her son is planning ( I would love to purchase that one) I have heard rumors its an active house, but it looks awesome on the outside. It was used in 1970 for a Movie called Bloody Mama. I have some stills from the movie on location which I thought was cool.
I have some pics to upload of it on the site. As well as some newer pics of RUSH Ghost Town.
Oh and IN Mtn Home they recently moved some older buildings found within Baxter County INTO Cooper park on the walk/ bike trail. I have yet to get over there and check them out but plan on it soon.
talk soon Jay

Thanks. Is the Red Raven Inn on the main highway? I would love to see it. I would love to see your pics. As soon as I get all my pics I will send them to you. I was just a kid at the time but it seems like I remember the name of that movie. I bet the house would be awesome to go through. I have had this fascination with scarey houses, cemeteries etc since I was a small child....I think it all started when I was just a baby and my sister made me watch Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte with her because she was scared. HA (The house in that movie is neat also with the weeping willows and stuff. I really enjoy your site. Later

The Red Raven Inn is directly on the highway across from Fred's in Yellville. Can't miss it.
