Hello all, I am sorry this will be a lonnnng post
love the site, and living in this state most of my life, I have been like "yep... been there seen that"
I have sooooo much to say I am going to start with a little about me.
I don't know what you would call me I can feel, hear, and see activity, sometimes ghostly figures, sometimes it's a liquid swirl, but that's not the disturbing thing. If I am not careful some of the activity will come home with me, I have to shield and such to live normally.
Have you looked into Magazine Mountain? I know there are butterfly festivals and hiking and such, but I feel something up there. I feel ghosts, but it is the other stuff that makes me want to get off the mountain, it feels more like it's the air, all around kind of feeling.
I have done a lot of historical hunting on the place, I will try to jot down the main points, if they seem broken I am sorry, still don't have enough info for a full picture.
There is an interesting lack of Native American artifacts, the mountain stays at least 10 degrees cooler in the summers with ample hunting, so why the lack of artifacts?
Settlers did take the mountain mostly Germans, accustomed to harsh weather, of course their dead are buried up there. They ran some resorts up there, a school, sort of a little vacation town. One of the resorts burnt down. During the depression the property was taken from them and they left the mountain for Subiaco and the area around it. There seems to be a connection to Subiaco with all of this.
Other than a couple of families the mountain didn't have much traffic until FDR started the public works projects. They built a road and the first lodge (well except for the ones built by the early settlers). The mountain became a state park. Missing a block of time at this point, next stuff I can find is around the 60's and 70's The Dan Blocker singers and the rest of the commune moved into the lodge to run it. Because they were 'hippies' the locals didn't like it, the locals tried to get them to leave but they didn't. One night several of them were on their way back to the mountain from a gig on Peitti Jean there was a car accident killing all in the van if the articles I found are correct. Not long after that the Lodge was burned down, no one was hurt, they were cleared of any wrong doing.
My mom was a reporter in the area shortly after this time period. There was an investigator that would occasionally give her a scoop or ask for her input. They were discovering body parts on the mountain (you will not find this unless you have access to cold state police cases). Mom and the investigator got a tip to come see this old couple that had lived on the mountain for a very long time. When they got there they could tell the couple was scared, they reluctantly showed them a worse shed than the one they lived in, where the couple thought they had heard a chainsaw and screaming. The old man believed it was his son. But no more was done on this, The investigator lost his good reputation because of this case, became an alcoholic. My mom tried to get in touch with him just last year and his son asked her not to talk about that case because he had been doing better. This stuff is seriously hushed up. I guess not anymore...
There were also two guys that tortured and murdered some rangers after what I mentioned before, they were put to death not too long ago I believe.
Misc stuff... two planes have crashed into the mountain in about the same place...
Recent happenings, not much that I know about the new lodge is up there... they have issues keeping employees. The first manager of the lodge took a demotion to go somewhere else.
I don't know what is going on up there but it would be worth checking out.
I would be glad to provide the few links and evidence I have gathered....
